DIY Platform
I came up with this last year while trying to figure out a cheap, easily storable, light weight, and easy to setup and configurable platform for the dogs so I'm not laying on the garage floor.
This is what I ended up coming up with.
I purchased a MaxIt™ Knect-A-Shelf™ 36" W x 74" H x 24" D 5-Shelf Plastic Shelving Unit from Menards for $37.00 ( All links to the items will be at the end of the post)
Each shelf holds 200lbs and is very light weight.
I cut down the legs to a length that I thought was good for me. You can customize it by cutting the legs at the length you want or not even cutting the legs. It is your platform, set it up the way you want it ;)
To help stabilize the legs a little more since the shelves will not be stacked on top of each other, I used Painters tape on each leg. With Painters tape I wrapped each leg twice which fixed the stabilization issue and is still easy to install the legs and remove them.
The platforms can be arranged in several different ways. With two platforms side by side or you can use four platforms side by side for multiple dogs. If you have a small dog, you can stack two or even three platforms on top of each other. You can make two stacks of two and put them together for multiple dogs or animals.
If you want to have a stepped platform to maybe have multiple animals in front and other in the back raised higher up. You can do this with two levels or even three levels.
To cover the shelves I use two moving blankets and then top them with two black faux fur rugs. (links at bottom of post).
Once I’m done with the platforms, I can easily break them down and stack them on top of each other. I then use velcro to hold them together. with all shelves broken down I figure it weights about 20 -25lbs.
Total Cost to make?
Shelves: $37.00 w/out tax
2 Moving Blankets: $10.00 w/out tax
2 Black Faux Fur: $36.00 each w/out tax
Total: $83.00 w/out tax
